what changed in swish

every release, newest first. swish updates itself: it checks daily and asks before installing.

2.40.3 2026-10-26

  • Free AI is now counted in characters, not in writes: sign in free and you get 10,000 AI characters a day. A short fix no longer uses up a whole write, and there is no limit on how long one write can be as long as the day's characters last.
  • The settings card, the credits line and the "used up" message now show how many free AI characters are left today.

2.40.2 2026-10-25

  • Fixed: on some Macs the glow could wash colour over a huge part of the screen. The finishing glow is again limited to the text itself: a tall text only gets the whole glow when the app reports its lines exactly and they really look like stacked text.
  • Lines that Swish finds by looking at the screen are now checked too, and ignored if they look like a colourful page instead of text.

2.40.1 2026-10-24

  • Setup no longer gets stuck: Swish now asks macOS for Accessibility and Screen Recording again by itself, so you press Connect once instead of two or three times.
  • Fixed: after macOS restarts Swish for Screen Recording, the welcome now carries straight on to the next step instead of stopping.
  • New: a "choose your swish key" step with a warning about other apps that use a double tap of the same key, and a live test: tap the key twice and Swish tells you it saw it.
  • Screen Recording now comes after you have tried Swish, and sign-in after that, so the first minutes are about seeing it work.
  • A single nudge a few minutes after setup if you have not yet tried Swish in a real app.

2.40.0 2026-10-24

  • A new guided first run. It puts Swish in Applications for you, walks you through Accessibility and Screen Recording, makes you try a fix and a rewrite yourself with the key shown on a keyboard, then asks you to sign in, and ends with a clear "you're set" screen.
  • Connecting a permission now works the first time: it no longer clears Swish from the list, System Settings opens reliably, and if Swish is not listed there is a draggable Swish icon and a "show swish in Finder" button.
  • The reminder is now a real Swish card (flower, wordmark, glow colours, the key on screen, what 2, 3 and 4 taps do) in the top-right corner, and one appears right after setup to show where to start.
  • The disk image now says what to do: drag Swish onto Applications, then open it from Applications. The website shows the same steps right after you download.

2.39.1 2026-10-24

  • The finishing glow now covers long text and big selections: before, it was skipped when the text was tall, or covered only the top half.
  • Fixed: on a long selection the glow no longer drifts onto lines that are scrolled out of the box; a line's glow now includes its quotes, dashes and full stops.
  • Swish is lighter on a busy Mac: long texts and busy Macs get a simpler glow (no blur, no sparkles, fewer frames), and the follow-the-scroll check backs off when the screen is slow to read.
  • Fixed: "select the text first" appearing in a Google Doc when the text was selected but the Mac was slow to answer. Swish now waits for it.
  • Fixed: in chat apps built on Electron (the ChatGPT app), a repair could type the message a second time next to the first; the page now proves the whole text is selected before anything is retyped.

2.39.0 2026-10-24

  • The glow is now exact for very long text and for selected text too, in browsers and chat boxes (measured within a pixel).
  • You can now see who you are: the menu and the settings show the account you are signed in as, whether this Mac is linked, and a sign out button. New and returning people get one clear "sign in or create account" button.
  • Editing a selection inside a web page is more reliable: Swish types over what you selected instead of selecting it again.
  • Fixed: the glow no longer stretches the last line when the top of a long text is scrolled out of view.
  • Setup and settings now say plainly that Screen Recording is recommended, and why.

2.38.0 2026-10-24

  • The glow now lands exactly on every line of your text in browsers and chat boxes (measured within a pixel), for short and long text, fixes and rewrites.
  • A tiny, rare "just swish it" reminder while you write during your first weeks, so you do not forget Swish is there. It counts key presses only, and you can turn it off in settings.
  • A Dock icon while the welcome tour is open, so Swish feels like a real app on first launch.
  • Screen Recording is now recommended in setup, with a clear reason.
  • Fixed: the website was offering an older download. The newest app is now what every visitor gets.

2.37.0 2026-10-24

  • A more elegant "swish" wordmark in the app, matching the website.
  • Updated look for every animation, with the labelled tone ring and the black sponsored line.
  • Admin: change the AI, email and payment keys from the admin page without a redeploy.
  • Swish now runs natively on Intel Macs as well as Apple silicon.
  • Long text is much faster: a 4,000 character fix now takes about 10 seconds instead of over a minute.
  • The select-all check in web editors retries before giving up, so fewer false "text unchanged" messages.

2.36.0 2026-10-24

  • Swish now lives at swishhit.com: new links, sign-in emails and updates come from there.
  • Sign-in and welcome emails are branded and arrive reliably.

2.35.2 2026-10-24

  • The original Swish flower icon is back, in the Dock, the menu bar and on the website.

2.35.1 2026-10-24

  • A smaller, tidier tone picker that takes less room on screen.
  • Shorter confirmation messages after a fix.
