questions and answers

How do I install Swish?

Download Swish.dmg, open it, drag Swish onto Applications, then open Swish from Applications. It does not open by itself. If your Mac says the app was downloaded from the internet, choose Open: Swish is signed and notarized by Apple. The welcome then guides you.

Swish does nothing when I tap my key.

Check four things. 1) The flower is in your menu bar (if not, open Swish from Applications). 2) Accessibility is on: System Settings, Privacy & Security, Accessibility, switch Swish on. 3) Click inside the text box first, then tap the key twice, quickly. 4) Try the key test in the welcome (or choose another key in Swish settings): another app that uses a double tap of the same key can grab it first. Swish never works in password fields, and terminals show a review card instead of typing.

Swish is not in the Accessibility or Screen Recording list.

Make sure Swish is in the Applications folder (the welcome has a button that moves it), then press the allow button once. Swish asks macOS again by itself after a few seconds. If it is still missing, drag the Swish icon from the welcome window into the list, or press the + button under the list and choose Swish from Applications.

macOS says to quit and reopen Swish after I allowed Screen Recording.

That is normal for this permission. Choose quit and reopen. Swish comes back and carries on from the same step. Screen Recording is optional: it makes the glow land exactly on your words, especially in Google Docs.

The glow looks wrong, or there is no glow.

The text still changes correctly. Allow Screen Recording for the most exact glow, keep the window in front while Swish works, and update to the newest version (menu: check for updates).

It says my free AI is used up.

Signed-in free accounts get 10,000 AI characters a day (rewriting counts every character, an AI fix a fifth). It resets at 00:00 UTC. Fixing without AI always works and has no limit.

How do I sign in, and why does it not link my Mac?

Click the flower in the menu bar and choose Sign in free. Your browser opens swishhit.com: type your email, open the link we send you (it works once, for an hour), and come back. The Mac links by itself within a few seconds. If you see a code like SWSH-1234, it expires after a while: ask the app for a new one.

I signed in and now see a message that my sign-in ended.

Sign-ins end after a while for your safety. Sign in again and you will come straight back to the page you were on.

Can I pay for more?

Not yet. Paid plans and credit packs are planned; checkout is closed, and the paid buttons only save your email so we can tell you the day they open. Nobody is charged. To have your saved email removed, use the contact on this page once it is listed.

How do I update Swish?

Swish checks daily and asks before installing. You can also choose check for updates in the menu-bar menu. Versions older than 2.33.0 cannot update themselves: download the newest one once.

How do I uninstall Swish?

Quit Swish from its menu, drag Swish from Applications to the Bin, and remove it from the Accessibility and Screen Recording lists in System Settings. If you turned on open at login, it disappears from the login items with the app.

What does Swish send, and what does it keep?

On-device fixing stays on your Mac. When you use AI, only the piece of text being fixed or rewritten is sent to Swish's cloud and its AI provider to answer, and it is not stored or used to choose ads. Details are in the privacy policy.

where the permissions live

System Settings, Privacy & Security. Accessibility lets Swish read the text you tap on and put the fixed version back. Screen Recording (optional) lets Swish find your words on screen for an exact glow; nothing is recorded or saved.

paid plans

Paid plans and credit packs are planned. Checkout is not open, and nobody is charged. The paid buttons only save an email address so we can write once when they open.

still stuck? send the log

The Swish log records what the app did, never what you wrote. In Terminal, this prints the last lines to attach to your message:

tail -80 ~/Library/Logs/Swish.log
